Whenever “The Vagina Monologues” is performed on campus, the same thing happens:

? articles are written by feminists and “enlightened” men saying something along the theme of how wonderful it is that women can finally speak freely of their vaginas in the face of male repression

? sensible men and women respond with some variant of “What the hell are you talking about?”

? the latter’s honest reaction to this abject silliness is taken as proof of the existence of a masculine culture seeking to stifle the sounding of the word “vagina”

I broach this topic because NC State will be hosting “The Vagina Monologues” this week. So, predictably, in Technician today, one can find this:

“‘The Vagina Monologues’ are important because they talk about things that have been silenced for so long,” Cole said. “I mean really as a woman, who hasn’t wanted to yell, ‘My vagina is angry and I don’t care who knows it,’ some days.”
