Classic Ray Nagin right there. The mayor of New Orleans is too busy to meet with any of the 3,000 Katrina Evacuees still in Charlotte. No, Mayor Ray Nagin has to hang out at the Westin with the rest of the League of Cities crowd. Important work there. Whine and moan about how the feds should’ve done this and paid for that to save his corrupt city. Do really need more time for that sad, tired story?
And do not forget, O local taxpayer you, you are footing the bill for this League confab. The city kicked in $450,000, the county $100,000, another $100,000 from Mecklenburg’s towns “tourism” account, and another $200K from the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. Add in almost $200,000 in free convention center use and that is over a $1 million public subsidy.
No wonder Ray Nagin wants to get out of town fast.
Update: As predicted, Nagin says the state and federal government failed him.
