Jackson County has $17 million left from a federal Safe Routes to School grant. I’m feeling warm and fuzzy already. The money keeps children safe so we can have safer children. In fact, I could tell you I have a refrigerator to keep children safe, and you are supposed to buy it. But that’s beside the point. The funds remain from a $30 million bestowal, of which 30% had to be spent on behavior modification/social engineering. Sidewalks don’t make children walk. And you can’t bait the sidewalk with candy to draw the kids. It is therefore going to take a lot of awareness raising and education to make sure those kids have ripped, muscular bodies. That way, they can be prepared to join the workforce and be chained to a seat fourteen hours a day.
