The Lexington Dispatch interviews Rep. Hugh Holliman. Here’s a sample:
Is there any other legislation you are working on?
Holliman: Well, we’re going to probably go back into a special session to try and address our transportation needs. That’s the one thing we kind of left on the table and didn’t address in the budget. And we all know in Davidson County, we’re all very interested in that bridge over the Yadkin (River). I don’t want to see a toll bridge there, but we’re looking for some other options and to see what we can do. We all know the bridge needs to be replaced. I think you’ll see us go back, probably in November, to have a special session on transportation.
On the subject, three members of Professional Engineers of North Carolina write in an (unposted) op-ed in today’s N&R
It should not take a disaster such as just what occurred in Minnesota for our leaders to focus on the critical transportation needs in this state. We ask that the General Assembly come back immediately for a special session to deal specifically with transportation issues.
Whenever the state’s transportation issues come up, I fall back on something I heard a local official say a few months ago that pretty much says it all: NCDOT has had money management problems lately, mainly because they’ve had so much of it.
