I was on a roll a couple of weeks ago, railing against N&R editorials practically every day. But they’ve had a couple of interesting lead editorials the past two days.

Yesterday, our local paper of record editorialized on proposed legislation by Sens. Kay Hagan and Richard Burr that would serve as an alternative to FDA regulation of tobacco, which the N&R describes as “drastic and costly action” for which “North Carolina’s economy, and Greensboro’s, would pay a high price for plummeting cigarette sales.”

Today, the N&R came out against the federal card check bill, saying “undermines the most valued expression of free choice in a democracy — the secret ballot.”

So, in the interest of being fair and balanced, I am recognizing N&R editorials that deviate from the newspaper’s general liberal slant. It’s the least I can do. and while I appreciate our senators’ bipartisan effort, it is what it is —federal regulation of tobacco.
