Republicans in the General Assembly are discussing Tax Reform and changes to the personal income tax code.  Today the Tax Foundation published this map showing the states’ income tax collections per capita.  North Carolina is ranked 13th highest in the country where most neighbor states are ranked considerably lower (with the exception of Virginia).  I’m not sure what changes will occur during the tax reform debate, but North Carolina’s competitive position among neighboring states needs to be one of the factors discussed.  We cannot be a competitor within the Southeast if our tax rates are continuously higher than our peer states.
