Historian Jim Powell takes a look at FDR’s New Deal in this column. The New Deal, as most Americans have been taught, “saved” the country from the Depression. Look at the facts, however, and you can’t avoid the conclusion that FDR’s frantic efforts at “stimulating” the economy made matters worse. Much worse. And much of what the New Deal did was meant to cement the Democratic Party’s hold on the country rather than to restore prosperity.

The parallels to the Obama regime are obvious.
