Says here that pressure is increasing for an independent audit of Mecklenburg County’s 2011 property revaluations. Yes, let’s do that. There’s significant concern that the county got it wrong in revaluing property in at least certain portions of the county. The only thing that will allay those concerns is an outside review.

So what are Harry Jones and county commissioners afraid of? Could it be the possibility that the county actually got it wrong?

Bonus observation: The same view is driving the county’s stance on property revaluations as Curt Walton’s plan to raise taxes to taxes to build more stuff: Local government is in the business of building buildings and providing stuff. What taxes are imposed to do so is irrelevant — in fact citizens should be thankful that they aren’t paying even higher taxes for the wonderful things that local government brings them.
