Last week, the president claimed that individual health insurance policies cost three times more than policies obtained through an employer. This is not true. Even the Congressional Budget Office under the leadership of current White House Budget Director Peter Orszag quoted in Wall Street Journal editorial stating,
Premiums for policies purchased in the individual market are much lower about one-third lower for single coverage and half that level for family policies.
Not only is insurance less expensive in the market than through a job, but it is also more secure.
