Constance Johnson has followed through with plans to challenge Mecklenburg County Commissioner Norman Mitchell in Distrct 2. The twist is that Johnson, publisher of City Political magazine, intends to do so as an independent, not in the Democratic primary.

However, to get on the ballot, Johnson needs the signatures of four percent of the districts 79,000 or so registered voters — or about 3100 valid signatures.

As an unaffiliated voter who always prefers that voters have more choices rather than fewer, here’s hoping she gets that done.
