URTV is plagued with scandal. Receiving a larger subsidy than many successful public access stations in the state, URTV managed to run out of funds. This was in spite of warnings from previous board members who were forced off the board. These board members objected to unsound financial practices, failure of management to provide board members with financial documents, attempts to conduct board meetings in secret, changing the bylaws, calling unconventional meetings at interesting times and places, . . .

The announcement was made at a special Memorial Day meeting that URTV had to fold unless people could persuade the county and city to give it more money. Buncombe County said it had nothing to give. Asheville City Council will be hearing the matter Tuesday. For background information, this is provided as the staff report.
