Forsyth Tech trustee and county commissioner Beaufort Bailey questions the timing of the N.C. Community College System’s new policy on illegal immigration after the college revises its policy for admitting illegals.

The timing is odd, Bailey says, considering the fact that system president Martin Lancaster is stepping down:

“I think it was poor judgment … the timing, for some reason, with Mr. Lancaster retiring, and an election year coming,” Bailey said. “It seems to me if I vote ‘yes,’ it won’t be in the best interests of the citizens of Forsyth County.”

Meanwhile, the N&O takes a look the prospects for the new president, expected to be named today, in the process specualting that the illegal immigration issue could be solved by the time he takes office next year.

Somehow I don’t think that will happen.
