The House Select Committee on North Carolina River Quality met on the morning of January 4th, 2018. If you missed it, here is a quick overview:

The proposed draft discussed during this committee (link is below) must be able to get passed by the Senate and House during the January 10th session (said during committee that it will only be a day or two). Many stakeholders (list includes, but is not limited to, Sierra Club, Southern Environmental Law Center, NC Chamber, NC Manufacturers Association) are OK with the legislation. If changes are made during this committee, there’s no guarantee that they will still hold that position. If nothing is agreed upon by House and Senate during approaching session, action will have to wait until the short session.

At the end of the meeting, after public comment, etc., it was approved (without changes) to move forward. The general consensus among legislators was that there’s no reason to oppose it. It isn’t all that needs to be done, but is a starting point. There may be another committee meeting this month.
