Polk County Schools officials provided some of the district’s classrooms with 50 Google Chromebooks in October thanks to federal funds, and 375 more of the laptops may be distributed this spring.
The laptops were purchased with a portion of the $400 million given to the State of North Carolina through a $4.35 billion Race to the Top grant filtered through the US Department of Education.
One twelve-year-old student interviewed observed, “It’s easy to pick it up and bring it to Ms. Burgin for questions.” Contrast this with the lifting force required for old-fashioned paper.
