Sharon Swanson of Raleigh’s Metro Magazine spent some time with the Finnerty family at their New York home. It’s an interesting read, and far more level-headed that an absurd commentary she wrote for The News & Observer‘s Durham News in October, in which she admitted to being terrified at the sight of a group of adolescent lacrosse players.

In this latest piece, she meets with the Finnertys at the invitation of Collin Finnerty’s mother, Mary Ellen, and finds that they are, well, human, close, civilized and gentle. Amazing. She also admits to being wracked with white guilt, the kind that made her initially believe everything Nifong announced in the early days of the case. She, like others, is now back-tracking, and seems a bit embarrassed by her initial reactions.
