The NC Cooperative Extension Service in Henderson County is trimming its budget by 7.5%. According to the Hendersonville Times-News:

For fiscal year 2010-11, the department was cut by 20 percent, or $84,918, to help fund a new agriculture economic development position with the Henderson County Agri-Business Development Partnership. The cut resulted in the elimination of the apple agent, a position previously held by [Interim director of the local extension, Marvin] Owings before he became interim director, and the elimination of a family and consumer science assistant.

This year, the agency will cut down on printing costs and reduce allocations for programs like Farm City Day.

Owings added people wouldn’t notice the cuts to the programs because they’re minimal.
