Just back from SPN conference and I suppose I could dominate the
blog today with new thoughts. The most pressing is to let out word from
Forest Thigpen, President of the Mississippi Center for Public Policy.
Katrina brought a storm surge of about 35 feet. In tsunami fashion the
entire MS gulf coast, and about 50 miles inland, is wiped out, all the
tax base is gone. In stark contrast to Lousiana, Governor Barbour is
not so quick to demand federal help. He has asked for a commission to
bring foward ideas for rebuilding the area – based on the best
principles of the free market. The Commission is in place with a report
due in December.  Via Forest he has asked for help from the
free-market think tanks. Especially needed: local government
analysts.
