You might think so to judge by recommendations in a new report on childhood obesity from the National Research Council. One of its suggestions is to adopt land-use policies that restrict fast food chains, such as McDonald’s, from locating near a school or playground.

Apparently, those evil restaurants stalk the kids, force Big Macs and French fries down their throats, and then make them sit seven hours a day in front of the boob tube or Xbox.

Oh, wait. Stopping that sounds more like a parental responsibility. But really — who needs parents when Uncle Sam is around?
