The University of North Carolina Board of Governors gave its approval Feb. 8 for Western Carolina University to begin offering the doctor of nursing practice degree.

In case you’re wondering why anybody wouldn’t just get a Ph.D.,

“The DNP will prepare students to practice at the highest level of clinical nursing and to provide leadership in our dynamic health care systems,” [Shawn Collins, who will direct the program] said. “Graduates of the program will be able to analyze systems of care and provide high-level leadership to improve patient safety and quality of care and to implement evidence-based culturally competent care practices.”

I hope that didn’t help; if it did, I’d say you were lying to yourself.
