A man in New York gets 240 years for a hate crime. It’s not what you think. The man, Steven Thompson, is black and he shot up a Greenwich Village bar and told patrons there that “white people are going to burn tonight.” But here’s the best part:
Two women caught Johnson off guard and tackled him, and a policeman shot him.
I think the notion of hate crimes is absurd. Arresting this guy for attempted murder and assault would have been enough. But when you add the thought crime aspect, he gets more time than his actual physical crimes would have brought had he not said anything about white people. Absurd.
