The “Secret Santa” trend we’ve heard about for several days has spread to the Triangle. Individuals are stepping up to help those in need by anonymously paying off layaway accounts for Walmart and KMart shoppers. Now just think what would happen if we each did this regularly, not just at Christmas.

Sahouin has worked at the Cary Walmart for 12 years and says this is the first time this kind of thing has ever happened there.”It’s just a blessing from God because these people didn’t have the money to pay off the layaways,” she said. “We got emotional, too.”At other Walmart and Kmart stores in the Triangle, anonymous donors are coming in almost daily to pay off layaway accounts. At the Kmart on Western Boulevard in Raleigh, store manager Donna Kelly estimates at least $10,000 has been paid in what she calls “Secret Santa” giving.

Is there someone you can help before Christmas Day?
