Bad news for parents of kids in Durham’s public schools. The school board unanimously voted to elevate the system over the parents when it comes to transfers. As the News & Observer story puts it, parents who want transfers “had better have a good reason.”

How about just because the parent thinks it’s better for the child or the family? That a parent wants a transfer should be enough, but public schools don’t view parents and students as customers they’re serving, even though parents and non-parents are paying for the service. School systems view parents as roadblocks to the system.

Sad.
