In the “war on drugs,” as long as there are willing buyers, there will be producers who find ways to meet demand, whether via methamphetamines or something else. So what’s the answer for public policymakers? “Advocates of letting the market regulate itself admit that harmful drug use will continue regardless of restrictions,” she wrote. “But removing restrictions will eliminate many negative secondary consequences. Not perfect, this solution has appeal to diverse social and political elements in our nation.”
