Like a zombie that can’t be killed, the argument that the United States (which is to really say, all of the people now living here) should make reparations for slavery and Jim Crow to some of the people now living here has recently be raised anew. Walter Williams gives that argument the back of his hand in this piece, observing that none of those responsible for the undoubtedly evil treatment of blacks in the past can be made to pay. Williams argues that this is an unjust idea that would only open new wounds.
