?Fix the abortion language and bring the [health care] bill back.?

That’s what Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., tells The New York Times in a profile of the pro-gun, pro-life congressman who’s been a pain to Democrats hellbent on a federal takeover of medical services.

Stupak is no free-marketeer. As the earlier comment reflected, he backs most of the provisions of the House health care bill. But he refuses to allow Congress to weaken the so-called Hyde amendment in any way.

But should a handful of Democratic House members (and one or two senators) decide, with Stupak, that the sun will rise and winter will turn to spring if Obamacare is defeated, the bill doesn’t stand a chance.

Who knows? They might even get re-elected.
