Pretty much a foregone conclusion, but Florida-based GEO Care has officially announced it not pursue a forensics mental hospital in High Point.

The state initially has turned down GEO’s bid to operate the hospital, but today the High Point Enterprise reports state officials “want to continue negotiations with the company over the proposal.” The state Department of Health and Human Services now says they simply want more information from GEO about the company’s proposal.

The HPE also reports GEO Care was the only company to submit a bid to the state. So it looks like it’s back to drawing board in the state’s effort to consolidate the state’s existing forensic mental health hospitals — Dorthea Dix in Raleigh and Central Regional in Butner.
