It’s becoming increasingly clear that what upsets liberals about Tim Tebow is his faith. I first noticed this some months ago, when the Bronco’s were still starting Kyle Orton and the fans were clamoring for Tebow. Local radio sports jocks Adam Gold and Joe Ovies of 99.9 ESPN radio were beside themselves about this development.

Ovies, much more than Gold, seemed upset that Tea Party people liked Tebow, and he made continuous references to the fact that he, Ovies, was Catholic and so it couldn’t be that he was anti-Christian. It was a case of protesting to much, in my view. I didn’t buy it then and don’t buy it now. After Tebow has gone 7-1 as a starter, these sports talk guys are eating crow and they don’t know how to digest it.

The bloviating sports talkers profess to be only concerned that Tebow is not a classic dropback quarterback. Baldersash. No one could get as emotional as people like Ovies do on the radio each day if it were just that. It’s clear that Tebow’s faith, his open profession of it, and his following among conservatives, are what really sticks in their craw.

Here’s a perfect example, lefty talkshow host Bill Press talking about being tired “of all this Jesus talk”:

Tebow is not just a sports figure to the left. He’s a threat. He represents all they abhor, and he has the charisma and the personality to make others follow him, especially kids. That, I contend, is why liberals hate him.
