The local daily informs us that citizens may meet the four finalists vying for the title of Asheville Police Chief. The article tells us one is a woman, which means she’s a woman and as a woman is likely a first woman in many womanly achievements. Woman, woman, woman. Back when William Anderson became chief, the paper was all over his blackness, which meant he was black and as a black was a first black in many black achievements. Black, black, black. Well, the local daily played a big part in getting the black, black, black guy out. Maybe we should focus on who has the best people skills like being able to boost morale by demanding high levels of professionalism and ethics, and, horror of horrors, somebody who can make the city safe for all the good people trying to go about their business.
