What happens when an otherwise sane person spends year after year babysitting, hectoring, and occasionally teaching groups of kids who never get older or wiser (because those older, wiser kids move on to the next grade once a year)?

Some leave the classroom to chase better money in another profession. Others learn to accept the downside to teaching careers that offer them other rewards. But this post doesn’t concern either of those groups.

Instead I’m focusing on the people who decide to put their sanity aside, learn about “cognitive skills” and “normative assessments,” swallow the Kool-Aid, and become members of the education establishment. Spend enough time with one of these folks, and you’ll start asking yourself, “Come on, she really doesn’t believe what she’s saying makes any sense, does she?”

This essay inspired the rant above.
