It seems property owners in Jackson County need to be ever vigilant,
as County Commissioners want to protect the “Rural Character” of the
county.  Mind you, this is the same county and board of commissioners that passed one of the most regulated land use plans in the state in August.

According to the Sylva Herald:

?Obviously there are people with dollar signs in their eyes,?
(Commissioner) Shelton said. ?But there are some people who would like
to see some semblance of the rural character preserved. So I?d like to
see people be able to keep the same quality of life while being able to
take advantage of the economic development. I?d also like some
incentives so people can keep their land and use it for farming but be
OK financially.?

In my opinion property owners have been doing a pretty good job of preserving rural character for years out there.
