To follow up on Donna’s post:

Imagine it being public knowledge that there are four candidates vying for a top post in the UNC system, that the names of those candidates are public knowledge, and that forums on those candidates are open to the viewing public.

The last time James Oblinger sought a top university post, the secretest system in the U.S. had search committee members signing confidentiality agreements to make sure no one heard anything till their selection was made.

I warned back then of the consequences of hiring someone afraid of public scrutiny. Will UNC and NC State learn the lesson this time?
