As I posted the other day after the shooting at the Holocaust Museum, the first collective blame assertions by the left went to conservatives and Republicans who, everyone knows, are anti-Semitic. The mainstream media ran with that, even though Jews and Israel have had much more support from Republicans and conservatives than liberals and Democrats for at least 20 years.

Interestingly, timing wise, a group of liberal academics polled nearly 3,000 people to find out if anti-Semitism played any part in their assessment of blame for the current economic crisis. Their “surprising” finding?:

“Democrats were especially prone to blaming Jews: while 32 percent of Democrats accorded at least moderate blame, only 18.4 percent of Republicans did so (a statistically significant difference).”

The results were surprising, they said, because of “the presumed higher degree of racial tolerance among liberals and the fact that Jews are a central part of the Democratic Party’s electoral coalition.” Yeah, right.

William Kristol of The Weekly Standard posted about his on the Standard’s blog. He ends with this:

In any case, just to restate: In a survey administered by (apparently) liberal academics, looking at attitudes not towards Israel or Likud but towards Jews per se — Democrats are almost twice as likely to be hostile to Jews than Republicans.

Exit question: When will Jewish voters wake up?
