Subtract $1745.09 from the value of the land Wake County Public Schools received when they accepted Jim Black’s vacant land on Rice Road rather than $500,000 in cash to settle the former Speaker’s criminal fine. Mecklenburg County tax records indicate that the school system last week paid the property tax bills on the nine acres it took possession of last year.

The two parcels now appear to have for sale signs on them. For the sake of Wake County taxpayers, let’s hope something happens.

Bonus Observations: There have been rumors that the town of Matthews continues to sniff around the land as a site for a possible park.
