The Greensboro News & Record‘s “Off The Record” blog took note in the past week of John Locke Foundation President John Hood‘s column on discouraged workers in North Carolina. A Lenoir News-Topic editorial cited Hood’s work on state unemployment data. (How high would the unemployment rate be if workers who have given up finding a job were counted in the official rate? John Hood of the conservative John Locke Foundation reminds us that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics actually does have a figure keeping track of those discouraged workers. It’s called the U-4.) N.C. Senate Republicans promoted the column on discouraged workers and Hood’s explanation of why former Gov. Jim Hunt is wrong in his assessment of some education issues.

The N.C. Spin website promoted Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray‘s recent column on North Carolina’s economic recovery. The Lenoir News-Topic published Gray’s “Locker Room” blog entry on misguided plans to offer targeted tax incentives to Boeing. Gray addressed the Forsyth County Republican Women this week, and she continues twice-weekly politics and public policy updates on WTSB Radio.

Director of Education Outreach Lindalyn Kakadelis discussed education standards and assessments during a presentation to the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association in New Bern. She spent an hour with Phil Knight on his New Bern community television program, which also airs on WNBU Radio. Kakadelis also spoke with the WRHT Radio morning team and spent time on “Viewpoints Radio” with Lockwood Phillips on WTKF. She traveled back to Charlotte to participate in a national school choice rally.

The Charlotte Observer noted the John Locke Foundation’s positive online transparency grade for the Gaston County public school system. Director of Communications Mitch Kokai discussed the week’s top state government news with Curtis Wright on WMYT Radio.
