Education Policy

In this week’s Education newsletter, Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies, wrote about the remediation rate in North Carolina’s community colleges.  While it’s down slightly from last year, it’s still high, and significantly higher than the rate just five years ago.  Over on the LockerRoom blog, he looked at some new research from the National Bureau of Economic Research, listed the members of a new legislative committee studying Common Core, and wrote about the controversy around the NCAE and "walk-in" events scheduled for next week..

Environmental Policy

Roy Cordato, Vice President for Research and resident scholar, wrote in his Environmental newsletter about predictions of a coming little ice age largely ignored by the US press. On the blog, he also wrote about the Obamacare roll-out disaster and misuse of the word "affordable" when it comes to the health care law.

Fiscal Policy

Sarah Curry, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies, took a look at North Carolina’s state spending in her newsletter this week. She’s been hard at work on a longer Spotlight report on the subject, too.  Look for that early next week.

Health Care Policy

Katherine Restrepo, Health and Human Services Policy Analyst, wrote a follow-up to last week’s newsletter, with more information about the new taxes and fees brought in by Obamacare.  She also wrote a couple of blog posts about delays to Obamacare’s individual mandate.

Regulatory Policy

Finally,

Jon Sanders, Director of Regulatory Policy Studies, wrote an interesting blog post about Obama’s vision of "iPod government."

These are some highlights, but there is a lot more on the John Locke Foundation’s Locker Room blog.

If you aren’t currently receiving the research division’s newsletters, you can sign up for them here.  They, along with the blog, are a great way to stay informed about what’s happening in North Carolina public policy.
