After months of straining to defend President Barack Obama?s policies, TIME?s Joe Klein must have been glad to this week to return to his true passion: Bush-bashing.

Karl Rove?s new memoir inspires Klein?s trip down vitriol lane. I?ll spare you most details, which you might remember from Klein?s string of columns from 2001 through 2008.

But I did find interesting one brief aside buried in Klein?s final paragraph:

Rove’s defense of Bush is partially successful: the President emerges as a man who put policy above politics. You can disagree with the policies, but not with Bush’s sincere belief in them.

Even though the next sentence suggests the Iraq War ?remains one of the worst decisions ever made by an American President,? it?s nice to see that a year of perspective has given Klein at least something nice to say about the 43rd president.
