As you know, JLF head John Hood has argued that North Carolina is on the wrong foot economically and a large part of the problem is portions of the state’s leadership haven’t come to accept that fact yet. Hood got support in his assessment today from an unlikely source: UNC-Charlotte economics professor John Connaughton, while speaking to the Charlotte Observer after his quarterly economic forecast talk:

This state had been looked at as an economic miracle. We’re not only not that anymore, we’re on the whole other side.

And during his forecasting speech, talking about job creation:

Nationally, we’re concerned about it, but locally we don’t really seem to be concerned about it. We’re not having that conversation here in North Carolina.
