Like I’ve said before, and like it or not, the stars are aligning for former Sen. John Edwards to capture the White House in 2008.

The latest body to snap into place is Virginia Gov. Mark Warner. Warner is set to announced that he will not run for president in ’08. This removes a major competitor not to mention another youngish, Southerner from the race.

Add in the drawing power of wife Elizabeth, the anti-Hillary, and Edwards has pizazz the other Demo candidates lack. Plus note the effect Elizabeth had on one Charlotte-area voter:

Doug MacLeod, 55, was buying a book for his wife, who had her own breast cancer scare. After listening to Edwards, MacLeod, a Republican, said he was “a little warmer” to another expected try for the presidency by her husband.

“I’m not really very big into politics,” he said. “But I just think they’re genuine people,” MacLeod said. “And I would like genuine people to run my country.”

Yup, John Edwards is a genuinely scary class-warrior. But there is no doubt he is on the rise.
