As expected, Republican John Lassiter and Democrat Anthony Foxx ended up on the same side of the full-penny for transit tax hike. Tonite the pair will appear at a mayoral candidates forum. Yay Democracy!

The two other at-large council members not running for mayor — Republican Ed Peacock and Democrat Susan Burgess — both voted against the $70m. a year tax hike. Council approved seeking the authority by a 7-4 vote. This means of the four at-large seats on the Charlotte city council, two voted for the hike, and two against. Yay Democracy!

If you don’t think this thing was totally stage-managed by the Uptown crowd after that come to Jebus meeting with the county delegation last week, you probably also believe Pat McCrory is sticking to some sort of “pledge” not to “go outside” the half-cent to build trains.

Oh, and one more thing. If Warren Cooksey, Andy Dulin, and Ed Peacock support Lassiter for mayor then their No votes on this tax hike are null and void. Can’t have it both ways, guys.

Even if that is the Charlotte way.

Bonus Observation: Next up, the county commission. Watch George and Vilma fall right into line behind Jennifer Roberts.
