John Leo writeshere about the “censorship envy” rampant among Islamic militants (actually, it’s Eugene Volokh’s term, and Leo gives him credit). In much of Europe, you can’t say “offensive” things about an array of politically protected groups and the Muslims want in on that supposedly good thing. It has spread across the Atlantic and is firmly rooted in Canada. If most universities had their way, at least on campuses there would be a similar ban on saying things that hurt hypersensitive ears. Fortunately, the First Amendment has found enough support to have held the line against that — so far.
