A while back when a former chair of the Libertarian Party of Buncombe County, Clark Walter, died and donated his brain to Harvard, then chair Carl Milsted remarked that Harvard probably had more brains than it ever had.

Today, Asheville probably felt a little like Harvard did with an invasion of gray matter. The John Locke Foundation hosted a headliner luncheon with special guest Michael Barone. Barone is a senior staff writer for US News & World Report and Fox News’ chief political analyst. People who understand that there is a supply side in economics drifted into town for the event, and John Locker Chad Adams hosted Matt Mittan’s afternoon drive show on WWNC.

I actually was interested in getting a couple of Barone’s books after hearing him on a radio interview. I wanted to attend the event, but I would have had to borrow some fancy clothes and manners from somebody. More honestly, I didn’t go because I’m working class, and I had to type up the minutes from a board meeting. Though I feel my employer retains me as the token retard to rack up points on Department of Commerce grant applications, I was afraid missing work today might have turned me one of those able-bodied homeless people so disparaged by Conservative think tanks.
