Speaking of the land transfer tax option, Forsyth County commissioners aren’t sure if they’re going to go down that road.

But if they do, Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines hopes to be there, holding out his hand:

The bad news, however, is that municipalities will not be able to dip into any revenue from a land-transfer tax, should counties decide to hold a referendum and approve it.

Mayor Allen Joines of Winston-Salem said that municipalities are still lobbying to allow them to share possible revenues from land-transfer taxes. Any changes would come in a technical-corrections bill that would have to be passed by the legislature.

“The issue is that if those tools were ever used, my opinion is that the city has just as much need for new revenue sources as do county governments,” Joines said.

Indeed they do.
