Here’s a copy of the letter from private sector companies and trade associations urging Senate finance chairman Dan Clodfelter —-among others —- to oppose the bill that would require a public vote before municipalities could go into debt to finance public broadband.

The letter emphasizes the Obama administration’s $7 billion in funding for broadband, concluding that the bill would put North Carolina “at odds with national broadband policy.”

Those signing the letter include Alcatel-Lucent, Intel and —last but not least —–Google.

Update: I just turned on the Greensboro City Council meeting in time to hear council member Nancy Vaughan read a resolution opposing SB 1209. Vaughan added that she realizes her fellow council members just received a copy of the resolution, but she’s appreciate their support. The council approves the resolution.
