This morning’s N&R editorializes on the joke e-mail about President Obama that a Greensboro city staff member inadvertently sent to members of local media (italics mine):

Truth be known, most employees with access to a computer probably have sent personal messages to co-workers and friends or surfed the Internet on company time.

But if they are found out, the boss has a right and duty to start asking questions. As in, does this person have enough to do? And does such behavior amount to misusing company — or city — equipment?

Linking the message with the messenger isn’t important. What does matter is whether it is appropriate use of work time. If not, it shouldn’t happen again.

Funny, the Rhino’s John Hammer’s been wondering if city planning staff have had enough to do, considering the fact that they’ve been conjuring up burdensome regulations designed to lighten taxpayers’ wallets. Yet the N&R doesn’t seem very concerne about that.

As for Jerry Bledsoe bringing race into the issue, I thought he explained himself pretty clearly. Personally, I try to avoid the reverse racial angle, but I think my point about the N&R jumping all over this joke why ignoring an apparent sick joke directed at Rep. Virginia Foxx is valid, considering the fact that the N&R is not at all shy about jumping all over Foxx —-not their congressman, by the way —– every time she says something controversial.

By the same token, when you send something to the media…….
