The Washington Post today captured this quote from N.C. 3rd District Rep. Walter Jones in an article about the fallout from the Congressman Mark Foley scandal:

“This thing should have been looked into months ago,” said Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr. (R-N.C.), who said he is “disgusted” by his leaders’ response. “That’s abnormal for a 52-year-old man having those kinds of e-mails going to a 16-year-old child.”

This looks like a tipping point for the GOP in November’s election. The Washington Times has called for Speaker Hastert’s resignation, Richard Viguerie says it’s “more evidence that Republicans have lost their way,” while an uncharacteristically dissembling Tony Snow chalks it up to “naughty e-mails.” Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean had this to say:

“Most Republicans are sticking together. Most Republicans understand that 30 days before Election Day, we need to stand together and find out what happened and continue fighting the war on terror and cutting taxes.”

Most Republicans, namely those in Washington, need to get a clue and focus on expunging the unsavory, unethical, and criminal elements from their party before they continue conducting the people’s business.
