Just so happens I was in Winston-Salem on Friday and I took walk by the new taxpayer-funded downtown stadium. Nothing going on. Nothing.
Now the Winston-Salem Journal is expressing its frustration with construction delays, noting that Dash owner Billy Prim “may be hard-pressed to finish the project by the start of next season.” The Journal also call for City Council members and Mayor Allen Joines “to step up and exert stronger leadership” considering the fact that the “project could be in danger of unraveling.” That’s a pretty incredible statement, since it was such “leadership” that got the city taxpayers into this mess in the first place.
Stay tuned. The city’s given Prim until next Monday to close on a private loan that could get construction going again. Problem is nobody’s sure what’s going to happen if he doesn’t.
