According to the press release,
State Superintendent June Atkinson will join the U.S. Army Golden Knights official aerial parachute demonstration team tomorrow morning, April 21, in a tandem parachute jump. The jump will occur at Maxton Airport, near Laurinburg at approximately 8:30 a.m.
State Superintendent Atkinson said she appreciates the opportunity to experience some of the activities North Carolina’s military personnel experience, especially during April which is Month of the Military Child.
Seriously, I am impressed!
Update (7:13 pm): “State Superintendent June Atkinson’s planned jump for tomorrow has been cancelled because of Army policy that does not allow people running for elected office to participate in parachute jumps with the Golden Knights. Doug Taggart, coordinator of the Troops to Teachers program at the NC Department of Public Instruction, will take Dr. Atkinson’s spot in tomorrow’s jump.”
