In the latest Newsweek, Sharon Begley explains that a multi-candidate electoral contest can produce a winner who’s the least palatable candidate in the race.

As she uses the current GOP contest as an example, she sets out a hypothetical preference list for Republican voters. Who’s her hypothetical first choice? It just happens to be John McCain. Who’s in last place (the worst candidate in this hypothetical example)? Mitt Romney.

I’ll bet she chose the names at random.
