The state, say Republicans, cannot afford to subsidize daycare for middle-class families. And yet, in the news today alone, we read it has awarded $247,500 toward watershed rehabilitation for Beaverdam Creek, $22,000 for greenway planning in Swain and Jackson counties, and $145,000 for statewide agricultural crop diversification.
