UNC President Erskine Bowles told the Board of Governors they might need to close a campus to cut university spending by 20 percent. Look at the system’s graduation rates and see if there might be a case to close more than one campus. Six schools graduate less than a fifth of their students after four years. Seven of them fail to graduate half their students in six years. Is this the best use of resources the students or the state?
